Location: Austin, TX
Description: Onsite technical writer responsible for designing and creating user manuals and online help under a tight deadline. This writer will work closely with Subject Matter Experts and other writers to document processes and procedures. Experience with ISO, FDA, or other regulated industry is a plus.
Duties:
- Create and update original documentation, such as user manuals, addenda, field service manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and any other Luminex Corporation materials requiring technical writing, ensuring accuracy and completeness of technical documentation according to project schedules and needs.
- Test documented procedures for accuracy and usability - both printed manuals and online help.
- Participate in design reviews and recommendations regarding design and usability of the documentation.
- Work with development team to establish milestones for documentation development and delivery.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts during design phase to gain an understanding of the product.
- Interact with subject matter experts for documentation review cycles.
- Edit diagrams and artwork.
- Perform peer reviews as required.
- Contribute to the scheduling process and publication plans by providing accurate work estimates to project leads and managers.
- Provide status updates to the Technical Publications Manager. Communicate all relevant risks to task completion to the technical publications manager in a timely and proactive manner.
- Adhere to departmental SOPs and Luminex Corporation OPs.
- Perform document control functions as appropriate.
Requirements:
- Two to five years of experience as a Technical Writer
- Have strong ability to interview subject matter experts and follow through when more information is needed.
- Understand the essential phases in the documentation process.
- Be familiar with principles of project management.
- Have working knowledge of FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, and RoboHelp (or other help authoring software).
- Have ability to quickly learn and understand new technical topics, then communicate them in a way that is meaningful to the target audience.
- Have strong written and oral communication skills, including excellent spelling and grammar.
- Understand how to revise common sentence style problems, such as passive voice, weak nominalizations, redundant phrasing, and noun stacks.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in seeking resources and information.
- Understand the importance of formatting, usage, and style in technical documentation.
- Have ability to prioritize work on multiple projects and deadlines.
- Have experience using and updating documentation plans.

- One year experience with ISO, FDA, or other certification-related documentation
